You can take an afternoon for making a bouquet of ribbon flowers in a wide range of colors and patterns. Ribbons come in a wide variety of patterns and textures and make for an extremely versatile, and all-too-often neglected, crafting material. Below, I’m going to share some different ways of making beautiful ribbon flowers.
- Simple Ribbon Flower
Supplies You Will Need:
- Ribbon
- Buttons
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut the Ribbon
Start by cutting six to eight strips of ribbons that are 4 to 6 inches long and equal in length. The longer the ribbon, the bigger the flower in the end. The more strips you cut, the bigger and fuller your flower will be.
Step 2: Glue the Petals
Each piece of cut ribbon will form flower petals. Distribute a dab of hot glue onto the center of the ribbon, then curve each end in and attach. If you are using satin or patterned ribbon, then make sure you glue so that the glossy or ornamented side is facing out.
Step 3: Assemble the Flower
Now, stack your petals, one on top of the other, so that the middles align but the petals are offset. After that, add a drop of glue in between petals to affix. You should continue stacking until you have reached your ideal flower fullness.
Now, unbend your petals slightly so that your flower looks bountiful. You need to make any final adjustment to petal placement and length here with an extra dot or two of glue for holding things in place.
Step 4: Finish with a Button
At last, add a button to the center of your flower for finishing the project. You can also get creative with rhinestones or beads.
Step 5: Put the Flowers to Use
You can add your ribbon flowers for enhancing the look of any accessory or gift. It will also look cute on DIY embroidered headbands or as a happy little magnet for brightening up the fridge.
